Twelve people will be vying for the five aldermen seats in the town of Baldwin during the Oct. 5 election, while incumbents Mayor Wayne Breaux and Police Chief Gerald Minor each face on competitor.

Breaux will be up against Shelton M. Barard while Minor is being challenged by retired police officer David Bruner.

Candidates vying for the board of aldermen include the five incumbents, Herbert Druilhet Jr., Mike Lancelin, Patrice Picard, Gene St. Germain and Clarence Vappie. Also in the race are Carolyn Bowser, Mike J. Caesar, Doug Frederick, Wayne Hebert, Ronald Pinell Jr., Peggy St. Germain and Henry Thomas.

Berwick Mayor Emmett Hardway, Franklin City Court Judge Terry Breaux, Morgan City Municipal Judge Kim Stansbury and Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle are among candidates in slate of elections who are unopposed in their re-election bids.

Also, 16th Judicial District Attorney Phil Haney of New Iberia will retain his seat for a second term without opposition, as will 16th JDC judges Gerard B. Wattigny, Paul J. DeMahy, John E. Conery, William D. Hunter, Keith Comeaux and Edward M. Leonard Jr.

District 4 — Willie Peters, incumbent, Franklin; Lucy Watson, Franklin.

District 5 — Louis Lipari, incumbent, Patterson; and Ginger Griffin, Patterson.

District 6 — Marilyn LaSalle, incumbent, Patterson, unopposed.

District 7 — Wayne Deslatte, incumbent, Centerville; and Robert Ayres, Centerville.

District 8 — Mike Taylor, incumbent, Berwick, unopposed.

District 9 — Betty Guarisco, incumbent, Morgan City, unopposed.

District 10 — Frances Miller, incumbent, Morgan City, unopposed.

District 11 — Roland Verret, Morgan City; and Glyn "Gabe" Meranto II, Morgan City.

Meanwhile, other races drew a substantial amount of interest as qualifying ended Friday.
