Additional charges have been filed by Baldwin authorities against three of the five youths arrested on multiple charges by Franklin police Tuesday.
Baldwin police have filed charges of aggravated assault with a firearm and driveby shooting against Jathan Douglas Cowart, 19, and Larry Paul Morales, 18, both of Jeanerette, in connection with a Nov. 17 incident in which they allegedly shot out the window of a beauty shop on Bollard Street with a .12 gauge shotgun loaded with buck shot.
One of two 16-year-old juveniles arrested by Franklin police Tuesday was reportedly also involved with the Baldwin incident, Police Chief Gerald Minor said, and was charged as well.
In Franklin, investigation of an earlier gas theft drive-off at West End Shell Tuesday at about 6:30 p.m., resulted in apprehension and arrests of five individuals who reportedly made threats to the attendant that they would shoot police if they were called. The suspected gas drive-off individual was not among them.
Cowart was charged by Franklin police with contributing to the delinquency of juveniles, two counts of illegal carrying of a weapon, open alcohol container, second-offense possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting an officer, assault on an officer and criminal mischief.
Morales was charged with contributing to the delinquency of juveniles and criminal mischief in Franklin.
One juvenile was charged with criminal mischief, assault on a police officer, resisting an officer and criminal damage to property. The other was charged with criminal mischief, illegal carrying of weapons, possession of marijuana and assault on a police officer.
Also arrested in Franklin was Brandon Joseph Babb, 19, of La. 182, Franklin, on charges of criminal mischief and contributing to the delinquency of juveniles.
Weapons recovered were a 7.62-millimeter composite assault rifle with a folding stock, a 12-gauge shotgun, sword, knife and small hatchet.
The adults charged by Baldwin were held on $150,000 bonds, and the juvenile was transported to the juvenile detention facility in St. Martinville.
In Franklin, Morales’ bond of $4,500 had been paid, and $33,500 was set on Cowart. Babb bonded out on a $3,500 bond.
The second juvenile was handed over to a legal guardian.
